Size Does Matter when you Buy New Garden Sheds

Find out why you should check your measurements carefully before you buy a Garden Shed and avoid disappointment!

In most cases it is tempting to choose the smallest and cheapest size garden shed available, but sometimes this is false economy as you discover the very small sheds are not suitable for some of the items you may wish to store.

Consider some of the typical things that may be stored in the shed. Decorating and gardening tools. Seasonal items such as deck chairs, or childrens' toys. Bikes get larger as children grow. If you do not take the time to work out how much storage space you will actually need you could end up with the shed that is just too small to suit your requirements

The simplest way to approach this is to make a list of all the things you intend to store in the shed. Then you can work out approximately if you were to lay all these items out, side by side on a flat surface, how much floor space they actually occupy. Then you can decide if you would you be able to fit them comfortably inside the shed and still have room to manouvre. After all, it is not just a matter of cramming everything inside and slamming the door quickly before they tumble out. You will need to be able to access all the things stored in the shed which means you must have room to move things around comfortably inside the shed to reach everything.

Furthermore, you will need to consider the other members in your household. While one person may have certain ideas for what to store, other people may have alternate suggestions. It is not unusual for garden sheds originally purchased to store gardening equipment ending up storing a multitude of other stuff for which it was never intended. Spare furniture, recycling or waste materials, items put in the shed on a "temporary" basis until another place is found for them.

Also consider that in all probability the amount of storage you require over time will probably increase as more purchases are made. Larger bikes, extra garden furniture, bigger and better equipment, while still reluctant to get rid of the older stuff.

For these reasons it is advisable to consider the size of the garden shed you wish to purchase and make sure it is sufficiently large to accomodate all the stuff you wish to store and still leave room for more.
